Study of urban planning forecasts for the new structural plans of the five Val d’Orcia municipalities
The project began with individual municipalities in Val d’Orcia drafting and adopting structural plans following changes to the regulatory framework. Against this backdrop, the need arose to carefully evaluate the conservation and enhancement provisions adopted by each administration for the World Heritage Site, and to compile these provisions into a single document and update the existing urban planning framework.
Alongside these objectives, the study aimed to address the growing need for stronger coordination of existing municipal urban planning policies in the area by providing a foundational document for the development of a joint structural plan for the five municipalities of Val d’Orcia.
The work was organised as follows:
- Phase of systematic collection of urban planning documents from the five municipalities of Val d’Orcia;
- Phase of study of the protection, conservation and enhancement measures provided for in the individual urban planning instruments, through data sheets relating to each municipal instrument;
- Phase of drafting the main plan maps using standardised methods.
The phases were designed to achieve the following expected results:
- To provide the Val d’Orcia Site with a standardised urban planning tool for new structural plans (a mosaic of plans).
- To assess the compliance of these forecasts with the conservation requirements of the site and identify any need to revise and integrate the new plans of the site’s five municipalities.
The study concluded with the production of a written report accompanied by a CD containing standardised plan maps.
