Discovering the Val d’Orcia World Heritage Site: creating a Tourist Guide
The creation of a tourist guide to the Val d’Orcia area is one of the actions set out in the Management Plan to promote an information campaign about the site using various communication methods.
This measure forms part of a broader project aimed at enhancing and promoting the area to tourists and residents alike, with the ultimate goal of educating and informing them about the beauty and historical and environmental significance of the Val d’Orcia.
The need to address a lack of tourist and informational material on the area’s historical, cultural, monumental and landscape characteristics was also a driving force behind this project. This material will complement the work undertaken by municipal administrations at various levels to develop a unified image and identity for the Val d’Orcia World Heritage Site.
The result is a practical, pocket-sized guide that provides visitors with valuable information about the Val d’Orcia.
The Val d’Orcia Srl staff collaborated on drafting the guide. Thanks to their in-depth knowledge of the area and its dynamics, they were able to highlight not only the most important historical, cultural and environmental features, but also the lesser-known, unusual and distinctive details. The area’s municipal offices supported the project by providing information and materials.
Accompanied by photographs of the five Val d’Orcia municipalities (Castiglione d’Orcia, Montalcino, Pienza, Radicofani and San Quirico d’Orcia), the guide has also been translated into English and distributed to local administrations and tourist offices.
