To ensure the protection and enhancement of the territory recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the municipalities of Val d’Orcia have adopted a shared Management System, formalized through an associated service agreement. This organizational model allows for coordinated and effective management of conservation, promotion, and sustainable development policies for the valley, ensuring a balance between the preservation of the landscape and the needs of the local community. The lead municipality, designated through the Agreement, plays a central role in coordinating activities, ensuring the implementation of strategies and interventions outlined in the Management Plan.
Through the collaboration between local authorities, institutions, and stakeholders, the system ensures the continuity of commitments made to UNESCO, promoting integrated and participatory management of the site. Thanks to this synergistic approach, Val d’Orcia continues to be a virtuous example of cultural landscape protection, enhancing its historical, artistic, and environmental heritage with a perspective of sustainable and conscious development.
The UNESCO Office is managed by Terre di Siena LAB, an in-house company of the Val d’Orcia municipalities, which operates in support of territorial governance, ensuring the implementation of site protection and enhancement policies.
